Learning Spanish - Hints & Tricks To Learn Faster
72Learning a language does not have to be stressful. It's really quite a bit of fun if you don't make it into a chore! Focus on the opportunities that speaking another language can bring. If you travel, it can make communication much less of a problem. It will even increase your communication skills right where you live. If you know two or more languages, you are also qualified for many more jobs. People who live in America are increasingly finding that Spanish is becoming the nation's second language.
Many people living in America today do not even speak English; many of these people are Spanish speaking. For this reason, learning how to understand and how to speak Spanish is becoming an important skill.
Tips to Learning Another Language
Try to remember to have some patience. You will not learn how to speak Spanish fluently overnight. You could have all the rules of vocabulary and conjugations memorized yet still have some difficulty with the sentences. You will only slow your progress if you put a lot of pressure on your self to get fluent fast. Rather, just learn at a natural pace. If you do this you'll find you're more comfortable with Spanish.
Another good reason to go slowly is that people are far more patient when they know the person speaking to them is still learning the language. You need to be careful so you don't offend anyone.
If you really want to learn another language, you have to get to the point where you can actually think in it. You have to use an internal translation process, where you take your thoughts from one language and put them into the new one. Don't expect to do this perfectly right away. Everyone has a certain amount of "mental chatter" in their heads; when you notice this, think how the words would translate into Spanish.
Like any skill, you can become better at it the more you try it. The more you do it, the more quickly your mind will be able to convert words into the new language. You will know you have mastered this when you find that you sometimes think in the new language when you aren't even intending. Once you can think in Spanish, you can then practice making these thoughts verbal by speaking them out loud; this way your ability to speak the language will also improve.
Simple flashcards are a way you can easily test your knowledge. Flashcards are an old school way of learning. These are basic memorization tools and the reason people still use them is because they work! Use them to learn about using verbs in different tenses, correctly applying grammatical rules and so forth. Carry flashcards with you to work, if you take a train, bus or plane or wherever you go. Use them with someone else and let them quiz you sometimes. All you have to do is use one side for Spanish and the other for your first language; it's that easy!
Learning Spanish is a great idea, but maybe the hardest part is finding good ways to learn it.
You may consider buying a language book from your favorite bookstore. A class is a great idea, and so is meeting people who are fluent. There are a lot of options available when you want to learn Spanish (or any other language). Make sure you enjoy it!

Good subject! My father's a spanish teacher, and I myself enjoy learning new words whenever I can. I definitely aggree that flashcards are helpful. I would take a new phrase to work with me. During those car rides to and fro, and during the lulls, I just tried to remember it again and again until I had it.
